Sock Yarn

Sock yarn is a term used to describe 4ply yarns that are suitable for knitting socks. They often contain some nylon or have a high twist to make them hard wearing.

If you’ve never knit a pair of socks before, I can thoroughly recommend it but be warned, it’s addictive! We have some great beginner patterns and a wide range of suitable needles.

Of course sock yarn doesn’t have to be used for socks. There are plenty of gorgeous shawlettes that use just one special skein and we have plenty of patterns and samples to inspire you. They can also be used in any patterns that call for 4ply from garments to gloves.

Opal produce fantastic self patterning sock yarns that knit up in stripes, often with a fairisle effect making even the simplest of patterns look very impressive.

Each range consists of between 6 and 10 yarns with an overarching theme. It has a limited run and once it’s gone, that’s it. This means there are always new colour ways to choose from so you’ll never get bored.
