Dye Your Own Yarn
Try your hand at yarn dyeing and produce your own unique yarn creations.
In this workshop we will by dyeing yarn using professional acid milling dyes. You will learn how to:
- make up the dyes
- prepare the yarn for dyeing
- apply the dye using the hand painting technique
- set the dyes in the microwave
We will also discuss some basic colour theory and how different dyeing styles translate into a knitted fabric.
We will provide gloves and aprons but please wear old clothes as yarn dyeing can be a messy business!
The workshop includes five undyed 20g mini skeins of Solihull Sock, a blend of 75% superwash merino and 25% nylon. There will also be the opportunity to purchase and dye further yarns from our undyed selection.
Your tutor for this class will be Ana Dugdale. Ana is a City and Guilds qualified tutor with extensive sewing experience particularly in the field of patchwork and quilting. She is also the owner of Stitch Solihull and in charge of producing their own label hand dyed yarn.
